Rila is the most popular mountain for a one week snowshoeing vacation. Conveniently close to Sofia Airport, it offers cosy accommodation in the villages in the northern foothills. It’s reasonably easy to get higher, among the hundreds of glacial lakes and jagged peaks of the highest mountain on the Balkans.
Of course, we can snowshoe anywhere else – Pirin, Rhodopi, the Balkan range…
One needs no previous experience in snowshoeing, just being in reasonably good shape and proper clothing. A joy that everybody can try.
